Practicing puppeteering on your own can be a fun, but daunting task. How do you know if you’re doing it right? Fear not! We’re starting up virtual puppet practice again, so you can practice with people who are just as weird as you are! This is a very casual day, designed for people who have already have the basics and who’d like to practice with and interact with a group of puppeteers. It’s a great opportunity to watch your own on-screen performance and get feedback and tips to help make your performances more dynamic.

WHAT: In this fun 1.5 hour puppeteering session, you'll get to practice the basics of puppetry (all puppetry styles are super-welcome!) with other puppeteers. Facilitated by Stacey Gordon, this super-fun romp through puppet land will allow you to work on skills like focus, breathing, posture, movement, lip sync, emotion, and improv to help make your characters come alive & help you connect with your audience in a more meaningful way.

This virtual practice session is perfect for beginning and early-intermediate puppeteers, or anyone who just wants to practice their puppetry skills. Participants should have already had at least one beginning puppetry workshop under their belts.

BRING: Participants are responsible for providing their own fixed-focus (non-googly) practice eyes, or fixed-focus practice puppet. Our practice eyes of choice are Peepers Puppets. Please note that Peepers are *not* included in the purchase price with this workshop, but you can purchase them here if you’d like:

WHEN: Friday, April 8th, 6pm-6:30pm MST/PDST. Check with your favorite robot/search engine for the time in your local area. Please note that Arizona doesn't observe Daylight Savings, and Mountain Standard Time is the equivalent as Pacific Daylight Savings Time.

WHERE: Zoom! Which means ANYWHERE!

WHO: This event is designed for ages 18 and upOne purchase is required for each person in attendance. Please note that this workshop is designed for people who have already received some puppetry training.

TASKS REQUIRED: Holding your arm up for extended periods of time; watching yourself on-camera; waiting your turn to speak; being generous with allowing others in the class to participate; muting and un-muting yourself when requested; opening and closing your hands; speaking in front of a group; participants should have taken at least one puppeteering workshop.

EXTRA/TECH DETAILS: One purchase is required for each person in attendance.
You do NOT need to be in the Phoenix area for this workshop, however you DO need a computer/device with a camera and microphone so your instructor can see and hear what you’re doing, You’ll also need a stable internet connection. Headphones are also a good idea (as in, please use headphones).  You’ll receive an email from Puppet Pie with a zoom invitation/link the day of the event.  Please check your spam folder and then reach out on our contact page if you haven’t received it 2 hours before the event. (Remember, if all else fails, your smartphone or tablet on a tripod is a fine camera, and please consult the diagram for an ideal set-up!)
